Abkürzung DMM [englisch, dɪ'rekt 'metl'mɑ:stərɪȖ], 1981 von der Plattenfirma Teldec eingeführte Technologie der Schallplattenherstellung (Schallplatte), bei der im Unterschied zum herkömmlichen Verfahren das Tonsignal nicht mehr in Lackfolie, sondern in eine kupferbeschichtete Stahlplatte geschnitten wird. Von dieser können dann auf elektrolytischem Weg Pressmatritzen direkt hergestellt werden, wodurch das mehrstufige Umkopieren (Vater-Mutter-Sohn-Verfahren) entfällt. Auf diese Weise gelang es, die Herstellungszeiten zu senken. Schallplatten mit dem Markenzeichen DMM wiesen zudem eine erheblich verbesserte Klangqualität (weniger Störgeräusche, geringere Klangverfälschungen durch unerwünschte Kopiereffekte) auf. Bis zu 15 % längere Spieldauer wurde möglich. Die Compact Disc hat diese Technologie allerdings schnell überholt.
